We're excited to introduce you to Maureen Hogan, another one of our dedicated Realtors here at WRP! This sums up Maureen in a nutshell, "I love love love Real Estate. Like taking a property in needs of some TLC and turning it into something amazing!"
If you ever get the chance to meet Maureen, you will instantly love her energy and sense of humor! Maureen grew up in Lowell, Massachusetts and then moved to Dunstable where she lived from the mid-eighties through 2013, before moving to York to pursue real estate. Prior to her career as a Realtor, Maureen was a Software Engineer at OAG Flightview and Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC). She's been married to her husband Andy Riebs (who she met while interviewing him for a position at DEC) for over 33 years!
A FEW QUESTIONS ABOUT MAUREEN
What are you listening to or reading these days?
I only read is MLS these days. I like yelling at our new Alexa to play a variety of music – mostly classic rock with some jazz thrown in.
What is the weirdest job you ever had?
I am kind of boring, no weird jobs – I was a playground instructor in Lowell, a floor supervisor at Hit and Miss, a bank teller, a campaign manager and a software engineer.
If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?
News anchor. When I was a kid (years ago, before there were any women new anchors) that is what I wanted to be! A female Walter Cronkite!!
You just stepped outside and found a winning scratch ticket for $5 million dollars. What would you do?
Not much different than what I am doing now. I would talk to our financial advisor about managing it. Andy would have the option to retire if he wanted to.
What inspires you?
Strong, principled people.
What’s your favorite food?
Soup, of all kinds!
Please tell us your favorite quote.
"There are those who look at things the way they are, and ask why. I dream of things that never were, and ask why not? " - Robert Kennedy
A FEW QUESTIONS ABOUT THE AREA
What is one thing you love most about the area?
Having moved here full-time from MA 4+ years ago, the pace of life – it is just not as fast paced as MA. Also, York is just such a beautiful town – when I drive through the village and harbor, particularly at Christmas time, I just can’t believe that we live here!
What’s an insider tip for tourists that only locals would know?
In the summer, take 103 from Kittery to York, as Rte 1 becomes a parking lot on Friday nights and Sunday afternoons. The Yorkwise card – gives you discounts at local stores and proceeds from its purchase go towards a drug and alcohol free graduation night for YHS Seniors. The food is good and pretty reasonable at the cafeteria at York Hospital.
Name some of your favorite restaurants and stores.
Frankie & Johnny's, The Union Bluff, The Central Restaurant & Bar, York River Landing, Eldredge Lumber & Hardware, Stonewall Kitchen, Sue’s Seafood, Nancy's Cafe & Catering, Rick's Restaurant, Norma's Restaurant
Do you have a favorite nonprofit you’d like to share?
Doctors Without Borders
NOW LET'S GET DOWN TO REAL ESTATE
What led you to work in the real estate industry?
I have always, always, always loved looking at houses and going to open houses. I have been a real estate junkie for years. When we moved here full time, I commuted into Cambridge for 6 months to my engineering job and just did not have the cycles to get started with my newly minted RE agent, so I took the plunge, gave up that career and started a new one!
Why Williams Realty Partners?
Because when I met Troy [Williams] 5+ years ago (when I was still an engineer), I said to him “You will have your own agency some day and I am going to work for you." He was our agent on both buying and selling and was fantastic. I strive to provide the same level of service to my clients.
What’s your favorite home design trend these days?
One story living – for us Baby Boomers!
Okay, give us your tips! We want to hear them!
Home buyers: Don't rush. You will know when you have found the right one!
Home seller: Declutter, declutter, declutter. Price it right.
Someone thinking of selling their home: While the spring is busy, homes are sold every month of the year, so don't stress about when to put it on the market.
