The holidays are here and along with the lights, music and numerous holiday parties many of us are tasked with buying gifts... a lot of them... for friends, family and more. While some people are easy to shop for, others leave us scratching our heads and stressing out.

At WRP, we say "stress no more!" There are so many local businesses that offer delicious food, unique gifts, fun experiences and even the opportunity to relax (gasp!). Check out these gift ideas and remember that when you shop local you are impacting our economy and supporting people within our community. We think that in itself is truly a gift!

An Experiential Gift

  • Ocean Fire Pottery in York, Maine: Check out their variety of classes and give that as a gift to the creative person on your list! For the not so creative, they have some beautiful pieces you can purchase.
  • Wiggly Bridge Distillery in York, Maine: Belly up to the bar for a monthly cocktail class and learn the tips and tricks of home bartending. Not only is it a fun gift to give someone, but you can also tag along! (Sidenote: Please check out our Meet the Wiggly Distillery blog post!

A Relaxing Gift

  • Ameday Nails & Spa in York, Maine: Word has it they give a great massage, facial and mani/pedis. Be sure to check out their Spa Day Specials and consider a girls relaxation day or gift certificate.
  • Liz Avery Massage in York, Maine: After the holidays are over a massage is well needed (and deserved). Pair a massage gift certificate with a bottle of wine from My Winey Sister or a gift certificate to grab a warm drink and pastry at The Central Bean and Bakery. (Bonus: Liz Avery is giving away a $10 gift card each time you purchase a massage gift card this holiday season.)

Give Something Unique and Personal

  • Tayla Mac in Kittery, Maine: This warm, yet hip, boutique is one of those places that you won't want to leave. Allow yourself some time to browse their eclectic collection and pick out some gifts that are sure to please so many people on your shopping list. (Bonus: Many of Tayla Mac's vendors are based out of Maine. This brings shopping local to a whole new level!)
  • The Daisy Trading Company in York, Maine: There is something for everyone at Daisy Trading! With two floors warmly filled with signs, furniture, unique gifts and more, you'll feel so at home that you won't want to leave.
  • Hilton's Gifts and Decor in York, Maine: Classy rustic is the name of the game at Hilton's! Check them out for signs, wall art and other beautifully crafted wooden gifts.
  • Wentworth Greenhouses in Rollingsford, New Hampshire: Pick up a gift certificate good for their many products or one of their events (wouldn't wreath making be fun!?) or if you like to give a physical gift consider a nice floral arrangement, holiday decoration or bulbs/seeds for the snowbirds on your list!
  • York Flower Shop in York, Maine: Check out this full service shop for hostess gifts, floral arrangements or other unique gifts that will surely catch your eye. Not sure what to buy? Gift certificates are always a hit.
  • York Weekly Subscription: Buying a gift for a news junkie or perhaps someone new to the area? This is a great gift that will have them thinking of you every time they read the paper!

A Gift to Please Any Foodie

  • Lil's Cafe in Kittery, Maine: If the way to a person's heart is through food, a gift from Lil's Cafe is a sure fire way to get there fast! Pick up some sweet and savory nosh for an upcoming event or drop it off to a friend, family, client or teacher.
  • Beach Pea Baking Co. in Kittery, Maine: If special is the name of the game then Beach Pea has you covered! Not only is their food a yummy treat, but they also offer daily specials including a soup of the day! Why not treat someone to one of the experiences mentioned above and then swing in for a meal sure to please any palate.
  • Stonewall Kitchen in York, Maine: Do we need to say more? ;-) Okay, we will. Stonewall Kitchen is the perfect place to grab a bite and pick up a gift (they have dozens of premade baskets and gift sets or you can put together your own!). If you are buying for a foodie or master chef (wannabes are welcome too) consider a gift certificate for one of their cooking classes.

    1. Dawne on

Great list! My favorite place to shop in that area is The Shops at Cape Neddick. If you haven't been there you need to stop by. It is a boutique mall with 12 stores in an old restored barn. The owners of the different shops run the shops so someone knowledgeable is always there to greet and help you. They carry everything..... One stop shopping. Check them out. www.theshopsatcapeneddick.com Happy holidays!

Thank You for Making WRP Month of Giving a Success!

Everyone at WRP would like to give the Greater York community a heartfelt thanks for helping us make WRP Month of Giving a success! We loved visiting a new location with Stella the Trolley every Saturday between Thanksgiving and Christmas collecting coats and spreading holiday cheer. So many people stopped by to make a donation and take a photo with Santa. It's because of YOU that we collected 13 bags of new and gently worn coats to donate to York County Community Action Corporation

Here's a photo of Troy Williams, owner of Williams Realty Partners, with Melinda Chamberlain of YCCAC.

A day after Troy dropped off the coats he received the following message from Melinda, "As of 11am today, we have distributed 28 coats and jackets. One pregnant woman came in wearing an old coat that does not fit her at all due to her growing belly. She walked out with two coats and was so thrilled. I have contacted a local church that runs a clothing "closet" that is interested in getting some of the coats to distribute to local residents. The teachers from Head Start were able to find coats and jackets for some of the kids in need. In just 24 hours, this event has been a huge success!"

It warms our hearts to know that dozens of people throughout the area will have a comfortable coat on their back during this cold New England winter. It's initiatives like this, that motivate our team to give back to the community that we truly love. The community that we live in, work in and many of us grew up in. We can't wait to begin planning WRP Month of Giving 2018!

Here are some highlights from this year:

Meet Tristan Swanson, one of our talented and dedicated Realtors here at WRP!

Tristan grew up in York, Maine and still resides in town with his wife Heather Razin, son Hendrik (3.5 years old) and daughter Bellamy (2 years old). His eclectic experience before joining WRP includes a Business Economic degree from University of Maine, Farmington, 11 years as Owner/Operator of Cider Hill Painting LCC and 3 years as a bartender at Windowmaker Bar and Grill at Sugarloaf USA. It comes to no surprise that Tristan is a people person and makes friends wherever he goes!

We asked Tristan a few questions and even the team at WRP got to know a few new things about him!

        A FEW QUESTIONS ABOUT TRISTAN

What are you listening to or reading these days?

I’m reading the 7 levels of communication and I always am listing to NPR. I just finished reading The Elegant Universe by Brian Greene.

What is the weirdest job you ever had?

Working at York Corner True Value Hardware Store

If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?

        Quantum Mechanic

You just stepped outside and found a winning scratch ticket for $5 million dollars. What would you do?

First I would do all the boring stuff, like pay off bills. I would also put a million into a trust for my kids. Then I would take off 6 months and travel the world, buy a summer house, a ski house and a fleet of ATV’s for the family.

        What inspires you?

Security for my kids, Troy Williams, Coming From contribution

        What’s your favorite food?

        Lobster bake at the beach

Please tell us your favorite quote.

15% of the time 87.4% of statistics are made up.

A FEW QUESTIONS ABOUT THE AREA

What is one thing you love most about the area?

I love this area because there is such an amazing amount of activities we have easy access to. In a 4 hour drive you are in New York City, in 1 hour you are in Boston and then can be anywhere in the world. There are ocean activities (surfing, fishing, sailing, and beaches) and fresh water activities (water skiing, fishing, ice fishing, skating, swimming, boating). Miles of hiking trails are available in York and if you are looking for more of a challenge you can be in the White Mountains in 45 minutes. The dining and entertainment is endless between Portsmouth NH and Portland ME. The school systems are great for families and there are also many alternative education programs.

I grew up in York ME so, I know the area very well and continue to enjoy all these things. The area is continually growing and evolving with more ideas, ideology, culture and diversity every day.

What’s an insider tip for tourists that only locals would know?

Don’t go to Short Sands Beach, locals prefer the beach at Long Sands for a true Maine beach day experience without the hassle of crowds.

Name some of your favorite restaurants and stores.

My favorite restaurants are: Flo’s Hot Dogs, York Harbor Inn, Clay Hill Farm, The Central Restaurant and Bar, Rick’s All Season and Green Leaves

My favorite stores are: Kittery Trading Post and Eldredge Lumber and Hardware.  (This is a better question for my wife).

Do you have a favorite nonprofit you’d like to share?

The York Food Pantry and the York Community Service Association (YCSA).

NOW LET'S GET DOWN TO REAL ESTATE

What led you to work in the real estate industry?

Working as a tradesman and then owning my own painting company I became frustrated with employees and sub-contractors, however, I truly enjoyed the interaction with my clients. After some searching and careful contemplation I chose to get my real estate license.  I was intrigued by the business and wanted to continue working with people on, in most cases, their largest investment. I am captivated by the construction process, land uses, zoning, and people’s personalities. What better way to work with families and cover all these areas than to work as a Real Estate Professional?!

        Why Williams Realty Partners?

It was a “no-brainer” for me. I spoke with several other agencies and just kept coming back to my notes about Keller Williams and Williams Realty Partners. First Keller Williams because they have, hands down, the best training available on Earth.  Education is the key to this industry. As a highly productive agent I need to be kept on the leading edge of technology, laws, contracts, lead generation, etc. Keller Williams offers this training and more.

I ended up with WRP because I have know Troy since high school and always knew he was going to make a big splash.  Knowing his drive and expertise, I wanted to learn from the best! Also, when I met the agents and administrative staff I know this was the place for me to grow my business and my life.

What’s your favorite home design trend these days?

I am a sucker for old homes with a modern twist. I love exposed beams and to be able to see that it was built with care and someone handled that piece. I love to imagine the history and story with every old home and property.

Okay, give us your tips! We want to hear them!

Home buyers: Do a drive by of the property before you set up a showing. It is amazing what you can tell about a property by just driving by.

Home seller: There is no time like the present.

Someone thinking of selling their home:  Call me before you do anything. The changes or repairs you are thinking of doing may not be your best use of time and money.

We hope you enjoyed getting to know Tristan! If you'd like to get in touch with him, here's his info:

          Meet the Team: Maureen Hogan

We're excited to introduce you to Maureen Hogan, another one of our dedicated Realtors here at WRP! This sums up Maureen in a nutshell, "I love love love Real Estate.  Like taking a property in needs of some TLC and turning it into something amazing!"

If you ever get the chance to meet Maureen, you will instantly love her energy and sense of humor! Maureen grew up in Lowell, Massachusetts and then moved to Dunstable where she lived from the mid-eighties through 2013, before moving to York to pursue real estate. Prior to her career as a Realtor, Maureen was a Software Engineer at OAG Flightview and Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC). She's been married to her husband Andy Riebs (who she met while interviewing him for a position at DEC) for over 33 years!

          A FEW QUESTIONS ABOUT MAUREEN

What are you listening to or reading these days?

I only read is MLS these days. I like yelling at our new Alexa to play a variety of music – mostly classic rock with some jazz thrown in.

What is the weirdest job you ever had?

I am kind of boring, no weird jobs – I was a playground instructor in Lowell, a floor supervisor at Hit and Miss, a bank teller, a campaign manager and a software engineer.

If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?

News anchor. When I was a kid (years ago, before there were any women new anchors) that is what I wanted to be! A female Walter Cronkite!!

You just stepped outside and found a winning scratch ticket for $5 million dollars. What would you do?

Not much different than what I am doing now.  I would talk to our financial advisor about managing it. Andy would have the option to retire if he wanted to.

          What inspires you?

          Strong, principled people.

          What’s your favorite food?

          Soup, of all kinds!

Please tell us your favorite quote.

"There are those who look at things the way they are, and ask why.  I dream of things that never were, and ask why not? " - Robert Kennedy

A FEW QUESTIONS ABOUT THE AREA

What is one thing you love most about the area?

Having moved here full-time from MA 4+ years ago, the pace of life – it is just not as fast paced as MA. Also, York is just such a beautiful town – when I drive through the village and harbor, particularly at Christmas time, I just can’t believe that we live here!

What’s an insider tip for tourists that only locals would know?

In the summer, take 103 from Kittery to York, as Rte 1 becomes a parking lot on Friday nights and Sunday afternoons.  The Yorkwise card – gives you discounts at local stores and proceeds from its purchase go towards a drug and alcohol free graduation night for YHS Seniors. The food is good and pretty reasonable at the cafeteria at York Hospital.

Name some of your favorite restaurants and stores.

Frankie & Johnny'sThe Union Bluff, The Central Restaurant & Bar, York River Landing, Eldredge Lumber & Hardware, Stonewall Kitchen, Sue’s Seafood, Nancy's Cafe & Catering, Rick's Restaurant, Norma's Restaurant

Do you have a favorite nonprofit you’d like to share?

          Doctors Without Borders

NOW LET'S GET DOWN TO REAL ESTATE

What led you to work in the real estate industry?

I have always, always, always loved looking at houses and going to open houses. I have been a real estate junkie for years.  When we moved here full time, I commuted into Cambridge for 6 months to my engineering job and just did not have the cycles to get started with my newly minted RE agent, so I took the plunge, gave up that career and started a new one!

          Why Williams Realty Partners?

Because when I met Troy [Williams] 5+ years ago (when I was still an engineer), I said to him “You will have your own agency some day and I am going to work for you." He was our agent on both buying and selling and was fantastic.  I strive to provide the same level of service to my clients.

What’s your favorite home design trend these days?

One story living – for us Baby Boomers!

Okay, give us your tips! We want to hear them!

Home buyers: Don't rush. You will know when you have found the right one!

Home seller: Declutter, declutter, declutter. Price it right.

Someone thinking of selling their home: While the spring is busy, homes are sold every month of the year, so don't stress about when to put it on the market.

We hope you enjoyed getting to know Maureen! If you'd like to get in touch with her, here's her info:

WRP Welcomes Mike Milliard to the Team!

Williams Realty Partners (WRP) is excited to announce that Realtor Mike Milliard has recently joined the WRP team. “As WRP continues to expand into the New Hampshire market, we are happy to bring someone onto the team who has an affinity for the area and a love of houses and real estate! We've been looking for someone with Mike's enthusiasm and unique qualifications and I'm confident he will work hard for his clients,” states Troy Williams, Owner of WRP.

Mike Milliard grew up in a small town in Connecticut and spent his summers vacationing in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire at his family’s cottage. He earned a degree in Business Administration from Virginia Tech, but has always loved real estate. During thirteen years working at Lowes, he met many terrific people, both employees and customers and developed professionally in customer service. To indulge his love of houses, Mike worked on properties, starting with building custom cabinets and additions, then remodeling, and eventually did complete renovations with a craftsman in Eliot, Maine. Mike met his wife, Tamara (also a Realtor at WRP), during one of those jobs. Their mutual love of property led them into investing and flipping.

Tamara (Mike’s wife) encouraged him to join her in real estate. “I have a passion for Real Estate and am excited to work in an environment where my work is something I truly enjoy, and I am confident my enthusiasm will show in every transaction. I am excited to start working with clients to make their real estate goals happen!” Milliard exclaims.

If you would like to contact Mike Milliard you can reach him at 603-502-1749, michaelmilliard@kw.com or by visiting www.facebook.com/mikemilliardrealtor.

LOCAL BUSINESS OWNER CONTRIBUTES TO YORK AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION

Encourages Others To Do The Same

Troy Williams of Williams Realty Partners of Keller Williams Coastal Realty presented a check for $2,000.00 to the York Ambulance Association, Inc. (YAAI) on Friday, June 7, 2019.  The contribution is for the YAAI’s ongoing capital fundraising campaign.

When asked about the donation, Williams said, “When I was approached by members of the YAAI board about stepping up, it was a no brainer.  YAAI is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit and they do so much good in local communities (of York, South Berwick, and  Rollinsford, NH).  My family personally needed ambulance services last year and I really don’t know what the outcome would have been if this organization wasn’t available to be there for us.”

Last year alone, YAAI provided 2,200 emergency transports and 450 non-emergency transports. The Association’s 16 Paramedics, 10 Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians and 12 Emergency Medical Technicians make sure teams are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  In addition, Blood Pressure and Glucose Checks and CPR and Choke Classes are provided. YAAI also makes sure there is coverage at parades, fireworks, and all of the York High School and Marshwood High School home football games.

“On behalf of the York Ambulance Association, we extend our sincere thanks for your ongoing support and your investment in this community-wide partnership for excellence in emergency medical transportation,” Karen Uebele, Campaign Chairwoman for the York Ambulance Association stated in a letter.

Williams went on to say, “I encourage anyone who can give to this capital fund to do so.  I hope no one ever needs emergency services, but the peace of mind that comes from knowing the YAAI is there is priceless.  The health education and medical screenings that (they) provide are also incredibly valuable.”

For more information about the York Ambulance Association, Inc., call the office at 207-363-4403 or visit www.yorkambulance.com.
